Winter arrived quickly this year… and then just as quickly decided to try and warm back up again! In true Illinois fashion, we’ve gone from snow boots to rain boots in a matter of days. While we never know exactly what the weather has planned for us, our schools are staying flexible and prepared for whatever comes next.

Each day, staff keep an eye on the “real feel” temperature to decide whether recess and gym can be held outside. When the real feel is 15°F or warmer, students are welcome to enjoy some outdoor time. If the temperature dips below that-recess moves indoors, where students might enjoy coloring, quiet games and activities, or interactive movement videos to help them stay active.

Whenever snow does decide to make an appearance again, students will need their five winter essentials—boots, gloves, a hat, a jacket, and snow pants—to play in it safely.

We appreciate families helping students stay ready for whatever weather Illinois sends our way—from snowy mornings to spring-like afternoons. No matter the forecast, we’re excited to keep recess safe, fun, and flexible all season long!
